Királyudvar, Tokaji (Hungary) 2008

2008 is only the second vintage of this traditional method sparkler from Királyudvar. Yet, the wine is a knockout! This is a well-crafted, delicious Brut-level bubbly made from 85% Furmint and 15% Hárslevelű grown in the biodynamic Henye vineyard. The wine pours yellow-gold with a fine bead. Aromas of blossoms, spiced quince, baked apple, ripe apricot, and peach syrup draw one into the wine. The palate is bright, fresh, and lively, showing a tarter citrus and green apple edge than the nose would indicate. The structure is firm but not lean, making this a great selection to enjoy with or without food.
