This is a very traditional wine as you might expect from the world’s oldest Port producer, clearly built for the long haul with sturdy tannic structure and somewhat subdued fruit showing currently. It is on its way to becoming a subtle, layered classic from the vintage, with nuanced nut, boysenberry and leathery notes dancing together and lingering long if somewhat shyly at present. I would wait a few more years before starting in on this, and though I likely won’t last another 30 years, this certainly will.
