The estate was established by Francisco Unduarrga Vicuña in 1885. In 2006 Alfonso Undurraga Mackenna began planting grapes on the property’s rocky slopes at the foot of the Andes Mountains. Today, Cristobal Undurraga, who has worked in California and France (including at Chateau Margaux), is in charge. Biodynamic farming has been practiced by the family from the beginning. The Mediterranean climate of the Andean foothills along with the property‘s well drained clay and granite soils and volcanic rocks all influence the health of the grapes and taste of the wine. Ninety percent of the wine was fermented in a granite egg. With 13 % alcohol, this Sauvignon Blanc is tangy, remarkably fresh, and offers notable salinity (the sea is a mere 9 kilometers away from the vineyard). Savory citrus notes including lime, lemon and especially grapefruit, add to the overall pleasure of this lovely wine. The estate is certified Demeter organic.
