Zweigelt is Austria’s most popular red variety with over six-thousand hectares planted as of 2023 based on the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture. While I am not surprised to find a Zweigelt Rosé, I am incredibly impressed with the quality and freshness that Landhaus Mayer’s Rosé offers. Zweigelt is known for making both fruity and age-worthy reds. Its Rosé benefits from the fruitiness with notes recalling fresh strawberries, grapefruit pith, pears, white peaches. A light creaminess on the body makes the wine very approachable. Add the combo of screw top and low-ish 12.5% alcohol and this is the ideal summer picnic wine.
