By Wayne Belding

The 2016 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from Le Berne shows a classic Sangiovese character from the Tuscan town of Montepulciano.  Locally called the Prugnolo Gentile, the Sangiovese grape yields some of Tuscany’s best renditions from the south-facing slopes near the hamlet of Cervognano.  The 2016 Le Berne Vino Nobile is a pure expression of Sangiovese, offering layers of ripe red cherry, raspberry and plum fruits interwoven with lovely floral, herb, earth and spice elements, backed by hints of plum, dried roses, herbs, vanilla and baking spices, with the earthy complexity that defines great Sangiovese.
