If you haven’t yet explored what Uruguay is currently adding to the world of wine, it’s time to take a serious look. Even if the country has been on your radar for a while, there is a lot more happening than Tannat, and experimentation is the order of the day. This Riesling was elaborated in Italian amphorae, and it carries a faint saline note that gives away its coastal origin, adding a freshness to the floral and stone fruit aromatics. Apricot and apple fruit ride a rich, almost fat palate through a long finish where there is just enough acid to keep things on the crisp side. You won’t confuse this with a German or Australian presentation, and that would of course be the point.
