Interesting to take a clone developed at a specific location and plant it in a different spot. Oh, wait – that’s exactly what pretty much all California Pinot Noir is made from – clones brought from Burgundy and planted here. Even Calera, considered to be California heritage clone, came from Burgundy via Calera Winery owner Josh Jensen. So goes provenance in Pinot Noir, and whatever mutations have occurred over its travels from Burgundy to the Petaluma Gap, they are certainly working here, delivering rich red and black cherry fruit, cranberry, damp earth notes and a dash of cardamom for brightness. It is long and impeccably balanced throughout, with an inviting aspect to the finish. Well done!
