Masciarelli, Colline Teramane DOCG (Abruzzo, Italy) 2015

 Colline Teramane is the sole DOCG (Italy’s highest wine category) in Abruzzo, and shows the heights the Montepulciano grape can achieve when planted in the right place by the right people.  This one, unsurprisingly, since it comes from Mascareilli, one of the region’s top producers, is stunning.  Its suave texture distinguishes it from wines labeled DOC Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, confirming the stature of the DOCG.  It has good power, but its suaveness is what holds your attention.  Great acidity keeps it fresh.  Lovely to drink now, this refined wine is best for a more refined meal.
