Michael Shaps may just be my favorite producer in Virginia, and his Viognier is one of the many reasons for that. Being a fan of Condrieu, Shaps’ Viognier shows a New World twist with more oak but every bit as much quality. The wine is smooth with melon, yellow apple, apricot, a little floral, and balanced creamy butter notes. Like its old world cousins, this Viognier is also ageable and will produce some really fun flavors it you are patient enough to give it extra time in your cellar.
