Miura, Monterey County (California) Pinot Noir 2009

Sep 18, 2013

By

The Silacci Vineyard bottling from Emmanuel Kemiji is more elegant and refined than either the Pisoni Vineyard or Garys’ Vineyard.  The wine has a brightness and litheness not seen in the other two wines.  High-toned aromatic lavender, Earl Grey tea, and red fruit tones make for a pretty nose.  The wine has an undercurrent of minerality and overtones of chocolate and coffee.  The palate includes ripe bright fruit and a supple texture along with a cherry skin astringency on the finish.  The vineyard lies about 1.5 miles outside the borders of the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA so is labeled Monterey.  However, many of the characteristics found in Miura’s wines from Santa Lucia Highlands can be found here.
