It has been interesting to watch the Gran Selezione classification develop over the past several years as wineries have begun to figure out how to make it so that it is not just different than their Chianti Classico Riserva but actually better than their Chianti Classico Riserva. This one – my intro to the brand – is very smooth, with black and purple fruits, some refreshing tart acidity, and the standard raspy tannins in the finish. It is fairly elegant and long on the palate.
