Alvarinho is the Portuguese spelling of the white wine grape, Albariño. Minho is the name of a grape growing region in Vinho Verde in northern Portugal. It is also the name of the river that serves as the border between northernmost Portugal and Spain. The Rias Baixas wine region of Spain, where the Albariño grape is so successful forced us to learn how to pronounce Baixas (bye-shas), is about 18.5 miles north of the Minho. So, this is definitely a great place to make good wines from Alvarinho/Albariño like this one from Nortico with its fresh aromas and flavors of fresh peach, pear and grapefruit aromas and flavors, lush balanced with crisp, vibrant acidity and a long finish.
