Making a sparkling wine requires capturing the bubbles that occur during the fermentation process. Petillant Naturel, which translates to "naturally sparkling wine” from French, quite likely occurred accidentally eons ago, when a fermenting wine was enclosed or bottled before the fermentation was completed, capturing carbon dioxide in bubbles.
