Pio Cesare, Barolo (Piedmont, Italy) 2008

Oct 5, 2012

By Rebecca Murphy

Augusto Boffa says that 2008 is a “traditional” vintage producing traditional style Barolos.  While this 2008 can be enjoyed now, especially with food, it is a baby, a beautiful baby.  It was sourced from family owned vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba, Grinzane Cavour, La Morra and Barolo–Novello, as well as from long-term growers.  Aromas of roses, raspberries and a bit of smoke introduce tightly structured and layered flavors of cherry, licorice and a touch of menthol.  The fruit is invigorated by piquant acidity and the wine finishes with tight, dusty tannins.
