The story of Poggio Anima begins with a collaboration between a wine producer, Riccardo Campinoti of Le Ragnaie in Montalcino and his U.S. importer, Ronnie Sanders of Vine Street Imports. Their idea is to use their knowledge and contacts in various regions to create wines that reflect their origins. The Grillo grape is native to Sicily, a cross between Catarratto Bianco and Muscat of Alexandria, also known as Zibibbo. The grapes were de-stemmed and spent some time macerating before they were crushed, which added a pleasing texture to this dry, medium bodied wine. It is round and juicy with notes recalling peaches, melons, tropical fruits and saline notes. Enjoy it with Veal or Chicken Piccata.
