Poggiotondo, Chianti (Tuscany, Italy) 2009

Aug 7, 2012

By Gerald D. Boyd

This 2009 Chianti is a pleasant blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, Syrah and Colorino that was aged for eight months in French oak barrels.  Even with the addition of Syrah and Colorino, the color of this Chianti is a medium-deep ruby.  It has cherry-berry aromas, with cola notes, medium berry flavors, touch of sweet spice, 13% alcohol, firm tannins and good length through the finish with just a trace of bitterness.
