Most wine shoppers think of Vinho Verde as a singular region. A closer look reveals a great deal of variation and nine distinct sub regions. The Assinatura de Familia Vinho Verde from Quinta de Santiago is drawn from grapes grown on granitic soils in the sub region of Sousa, in the southern part of the Vinho Verde growing area. The Arinto grape is widely grown here and, combined with Louriero and Trajadura grapes, offers a wine with more depth and complexity than most. The aromas of the Assinatura de Familia 2023 Vinho Verde are lively and attractive with floral scents followed by a range of lemon, pear, and apple fruits. The flavors are pure and bright but with more depth and interest than most. The green apple and lemon fruit elements are underscored by a citrus peel intensity plus floral, herb and spice tones. It is delicious and refreshing.
