As eccentric as the Roth Merlot is, the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon shows good varietal character. Aged for 18 months sur lie in French oak, it has a medium-deep ruby color, low intensity berry and spicy French oak nose, medium blackberry flavors, firm refined tannins, 14.5% alcohol and medium fruit through the finish.
