Roth, Sonoma County (California) 2012

May 4, 2015

By Robert Whitley

It’s a crazy blend with seven different grape varieties (Zinfandel at 26 percent is the somewhat dominant force) but Roth’s Heritage red wine works. Brambly black fruits, spice notes all meet in the middle, with a juicy, mouth-watering mid-palate and excellent persistence of flavor through the finish. What’s more, this wine will be still better in another year or two. Other grape varieties in order of prominence: Syrah, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
