The Salomon Undhof estate is in Austria’s Kremstal region and is noted for clean and intense renditions of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. Their 2017 Riesling Ried Steiner Kögl is a wonderful expression of Austrian and Krems style. The grapes are harvested from 70-year-old terraced vineyards with weathered schist soils overlooking the Danube. The bouquet is expressive and enticing with vivid lemon, lime, pineapple and peach fruit scents interwoven with elements of flowers, mint, green tea and honey. On the palate, it shows pure flavors and a rich texture with the citrus and tropical fruit layers underscored by mint and tea nuances plus a long, minerally-clean finish. The herb, honey and spice tones are interwoven with the fruit elements and result in a delicious, layered and complex wine that will offer enjoyment for another 5+ years.
