Santa Ema, Maipo Valley (Chile) Merlot 2008

Feb 8, 2012

By Paul Lukacs

There’s a lot of Merlot in Chile.  In good hands, the grape produces, supple, fleshy, but full-flavored red wines that can prove very satisfying.  Here’s a case in point.  With pliant tannins and unobtrusive acidity, the wine is easy to drink.  At the same time, there’s nothing simple about it.  Instead, it delights with its layered flavors and nuanced aromas.  Youthful, with a full overlay of oak, it benefits from decanting, as becomes ever more subtle with exposure to air.
