This venerable wine is a star year in and year out, and it’s laudable that the family’s commitment to the environment and full spectrum sustainability is second to none. That attention to the land and the people is a big part of that success, making it possible for winemaker Aron Weinkauf to embrace what a particular vintage has to offer. The 2021 vintage “Estate” bottling is a standout in a historical and current lineup of releases that makes standing out somewhat difficult. Layered black and blue berries, cassis and cedar chest aromas entice, and firm but forgiving tannins express those elements as bold but elegant flavors. It’s a truly rare delight that speaks clearly of a unique place already, and it will continue to age gracefully for many years. In addition, I believe a lighter bottle just adds to the joy. Here’s to the next forty years! Contains 9% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot.
