Stefano Orcchetti might just be the newest winemaker in Piedmont, but his up-and-coming style is both classical and refreshing. This Langhe Nebbiolo is a step above the standard. Classic red cherry and cranberry notes are supported by rose petal, tar, and chamomile with a swirl of chocolate on the body. Nebbiolo is a classically tannic and acidic wine — both characteristics help the wine age in the bottle — but Stefano’s style produces a balance that makes the wine approachable despite Nebbiolo’s angsty youth. Langhe Nebbiolo is my choice when I’m looking for a young, grippy but fruit-accessible red.
