New Zealand Pinot Noirs have been increasing in popularity, so it is no surprise that Gamay Noir is starting to find its way into the market. Originating from Beaujolais, just south of Burgundy, Gamay Noir enjoys a similar growing climate as Pinot Noir. Te Mata’s 2022 vintage is light bodied with great acidity, tart cranberry and pomegranate notes, and subtle mineral undertone. Gamay is a go-to summer grape for my family. We will often put one in the refrigerator while cooking dinner to achieve a light chill before opening.
