The Fledge & Co, Western Cape (South Africa) White Blend “Vagabond” 2022 ($28, Well Crafted Wine & Beverage Co)

The Fledge & Co. is a family operation with husband & wife, Leon Coetzee and Margeaux Nel at the helm. Like many “new age” winemakers, they are sourcing their fruit from vineyards across South Africa. Vagabond is a white blend that is bright and complex with flavors ranging from grapefruit and pineapple to rose petal and honey infused cream. The blend includes Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Verdelho, Grenache Blanc and Riesling. With only 13% alcohol, this is a great warm weather wine that can be enjoyed both on its own or, thanks to its high acidity, with a wide range of food. The Fledge & Co. wines are on my revisit list and are an excellent example of the high-quality wines coming out of South Africa.
