Vale do Bomfim, Douro (Portugal) 2008

May 4, 2011

By Paul Lukacs

Produced by the Symington family from vineyards that also supply grapes for the port house of Dow, this medium-bodied, dry table wine tastes satisfyingly deep.  A blend of traditional port varieties, it evidences fairly firm tannins, and finishes on a savory, spicy note.  There is an earthy, rustic edge to it, something that only makes it seem more interesting because more distinctive.  And at only $12, it definitely offers fine value.
