Veyder-Malberg, Wachau (Niederösterriech, Austria) Grüner Veltliner 2021

Feb 14, 2023

By Wayne Belding

Peter Veyder-Malberg is something of a local legend in the Wachau.  He assiduously tends his old vines on terraced vineyards by hand.  The steep slopes of the Wachau are noted for exceptional quality Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners.  Veyder-Malberg’s Liebdich Wachauer Grüner Veltliner is a blend of his several vineyards meant to give an overall impression of a vintage.  The 2021 vintage is juicy, fresh and bursting with aromas of lemon, lime and green apple fruits underscored by subtle elements of white pepper and lentils.  The flavors are pure, clean and refreshing with a satisfying textural richness on the palate.  The finish is crisp, dry and lively.  Grüner Veltliner is a great choice for pairing with vegetable-oriented menus.  Try this juicy and lively Grüner with your favorite vegetarian cuisine.  Its inherent green characteristics give it an advantage over other wines.
