Betting on two seemingly long shots, Riesling and Grüner Veltliner, Zocker, which roughly translates as “gamble," made 2,000 cases of Grüner in this vintage. In the glass it is a vibrant yellow-green and this is one lively wine from start to finish. The effusive aroma combines lime, Meyer lemon and a hint of pineapple, and the flavors emphasize citrus with some fennel and mineral notes. It finishes with some zing and tangy acidity. Overall it is an excellent example of Grüner, but newcomers may need some time to get acquainted with this distinct white. When served with seafood, it is a safe bet the experience will be delightful.
